They look bulky, awkward to carry and fire for that matter, and seem like typical sci-fi weapons that were added in last minute. They look almost too cartoony to be practical weapons.
The laser weapons in the Fallout don't feel like they are properly implemented. Make no mistake, I'm a science nerd through and through and do enjoy a good energy weapon when done right. Maybe it's because I'm a gun nut (both in the game and IRL), but no matter how much I sink into energy weapons I find them extremely lackluster.
I don't know about some but I generally don't like energy weapons in the fallout games.
